A single person as well as legal persons and/or an association of individuals can be a full member. To become a member of the asp, the applicant must have been identified by scientific work in the field of sport psychology in research and teaching or practical application. Students may join as extraordinary members. The application has to be requested in written form. The admission of new members is decided  by the executive board. Acceptance of a new member requires the approval of two members of the executive board. The application is considered to be complete when the President has notified the applicant about the decision.

During the general meeting on May 14, 2015 in Freiburg, it was decided unanimously that the membership fees would be increased from January 1, 2016. Since January 1st, 2016:

• The membership fee amounts to 90 EUR for full membership p.a. (incl. the journal "Journal of Sport Psychology").
• The reduced fee for student (associated) members is 40 EUR p.a.
